According to a local government statement, in June 2022, an anonymous worker misplaced a USB flash drive holding the personal information of every resident of Amagasaki, northwest of Osaka, after going out for drinks.

On the other hand, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI-Kenya) George Kinoti published a full investigative report on the three foreigners caught with election materials at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Kinoti claims that upon arrival at the airport, he was stopped because of suspicious documents that turned out to be IEBC stickers for at least 11 counties and approximately 10,000 polling stations spread across Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Nyeri, Meru, Machakos, Murang'a, Bomet, Tharaka Nithi, Nyandarua, Kericho, and an unprinted roll.

Following additional inquiry, the DCI determined that the two were not Smartmatic personnel and had entered the country using fake Venezuelan passports.
