Is Kenya Ready For GMO ?

According to a dispatch following the cabinet meeting on October 3, the Kenyan government claims that it reversed the GMO ban after taking into account things like the Kenya National Biosafety Authority's (NBA) guidelines, the need to adapt to climate change and a reduction in reliance on rain-fed agriculture. The Kenyan government repealed a ban on the commercialization of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) cotton, a GM cotton type resistant to the destructive insect pest known as the African bollworm, during the same cabinet meeting. Clarion Call For Peaceful, Free & Fair Elections In Kenya

Since gaining its independence, Kenya has made enormous strides toward democracy. On election day, the world will excitedly watch Kenyans demonstrate the power of their democracy.

"The United States is devoted to accompanying Kenya on its democratic journey as a longtime ally of the Kenyan people. Elections that are free, fair, and peaceful mark the start of the next step of this journey. The United States does not promote any particular candidates or side in the election, but we do have a strong interest in upholding Kenya's democracy and the ability of all eligible citizens to vote under Kenyan law.

We will continue to strengthen our joint fight against extremism and terrorism.  We will also maintain investments in education, agriculture, environmental protection, and public health programs to save lives and help Kenya achieve self-reliance.  We know that to go far in our journey to greater peace and prosperity, we must walk together.

In order to achieve this goal, the US is funding Kenyan-led initiatives that aim to increase civic education, safeguard human rights, and advance peace. Preserving and enhancing democracy is, as President Biden stated, "the defining issue of our time," and the United States is dedicated to cooperating with like-minded allies to resurrect democracy around the world.

Whatever Kenyan voters decide on August 9, the United States looks forward to finding ways to strengthen our strategic engagement with the Kenyan people on a variety of fronts, including our economic connection for the mutual benefit of both nations.

Kenya's position as a pillar of democracy will be further cemented by a peaceful election that represents the will of the Kenyan people. As we work to meet the difficulties of our time together, a peaceful transfer of power will also allow Kenya to ascend to new heights as a regional and world leader."
