Mike Sonko-Man of The Match
Mike Sonko: Man of The Match
"The impeachment proceedings [against Mike Sonko] before the County
Assembly and the Senate were properly conducted in accordance with
Article 181 of the Constitution, Section 33 of the County Governments
Act and Standing Orders of the Assembly and the Senate," the Supreme
Court ruled.
“Chapter Six of the Constitution was not enacted in vain or for cosmetic reasons. The authority assigned to a State officer is a public trust to be exercised in a manner that demonstrates respect for the people; brings honor to the nation and dignity to the office; and promotes public confidence in the integrity of the office. It vests in the State officer the responsibility to serve the people, rather than the power to rule them,” the Supreme Court judges said in their ruling on Friday, July 15.
It’s now upon the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to make the call on whether Sonko, whom they had on Thursday, July 14 cleared to run, will be on the ballot. If the electoral agency okays Sonko’s candidature, the green-light could be challenged in court, given Sonko has now exhausted all his appeal options, reports the Standard.
Having been successfully impeached in Nairobi, Why was Mike Sonko vying in Mombasa in the first place? It sounded like a very easy task. The answer is quite simple, Sonko knows where the votes are and how to convert them. The current Kenyan society has varied segments( Generations). There are those who struggle for a life of the "shamba la mawe". At one time, they think of drugs to forget their miseries. There exist a category where the business, employment can't be sufficient to pay the bills. They default from one Mobile lending App to another. I presume the Thriving group to be the real voters. Play 1,2,3...cards and you be their savior. Even with a bloated lie, they may remain loyal.
Then comes Generation Z! They achieved some level of education. Their possession ranges from a Smartphone to a Computer. They know just a lot. They have very many ideas, but WE sleeps. Some in personal businesses. Lucky few secured employment in both the Public and Private Sectors. Maybe a personal car. Some clique with adverse lifestyles. Do not worry! Some keep looking at their shoulders, just in case someone is tracking them. A large proportion do not vote, and/or not registered voters.
Lastly,The Full Grace of God(god). The ideas are on the run. Serving in the first lane. Unless there exist a correlation between the vote and a promised gain, a majority do not vote. Ever seen large campaign trails in Muthaiga, Runda, Kitusuru? Politicians got no votes there.
The law does not require citizens to vote, but voting is a very important part of any democracy. By voting, citizens are participating in the democratic process. Citizens vote for leaders to represent them and their ideas, and the leaders support the citizens' interests. When you do not vote, it is an express tag of a wrong policy, auto-piloted running of the economy and full-blown corruption.
Make your Vote Count on 9th August 2022.
